October 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - SALEM:

Stating that poor sanitary condition prevails at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, members of Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a demonstration near the Collectorate on Monday.

Led by its urban district secretary V. Rajendran, the members said that medical waste was not disposed of in the hospital and was dumped on the premises. Also, the toilets were not maintained properly. They said that non-availability of beds, protected drinking water and inadequate sanitary workers were causing much hardship to the patients. Basic amenities should be improved at the GH.

Also, the poor condition of the road was posing threat to the life of patients while transporting between wards in the hospital. The CPI cadre said doctors should visit patients at Super Specialty Hospital regularly. They also said that city roads dug for various works were not re-laid properly causing inconvenience to road-users. Stagnation of rainwater in pits and trenches was turning to be a breeding place for mosquitoes. They demanded re-laying of roads immediately and also cleaning of drains.
