With the peak summer season just a few days away, several places across the State are sizzling. Tamil Nadu may experience dry and hot weather this week.

Monday turned out to be one of the hottest days this season for Tiruttani, Vellore and Meenambakkam. The mercury peaked to 42.6 degrees Celsius in Tiruttani, followed by Vellore, which experienced searing heat with the temperature touching 42.2 degrees Celsius.

Chennai, which was enjoying relatively cooler days, too had an uncomfortable day with the maximum temperature peaking at 39.1 degrees Celsius in Meenambakkam and 36.9 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam.

Residents of Dharmapuri, Karur, Salem and Tiruchi too had a torrid day, with the maximum temperature soaring above 40 degrees Celsius.

Officials of the Meteorological Department said strong westerlies that bring in hot air and clear sky had influenced the scorching heat.
