Health officials conduct inquiry at GH

A team of officials of the State Health Department on Friday conducted an inquiry on the death of two newborns at the Government Hospital here recently allegedly due to the negligence of the hospital staff.

Two newborns, including a female, died within a span of 24 hours at the GH on May 23. Both the mothers hailed from Suriyampalayam village and their relatives protested stating that the incidents were due to the negligence of the nurses.

The hospital authorities clarified that one of the babies died due to respiratory problem and the other due to hypertension.

Namakkal District Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy, after preliminary inquiry, transferred a woman doctor and a nurse.

Meanwhile, a team of the Health Department led by P. Ananthan, Additional Director of Medical Services, and comprising N. Vijayalakshmi, Joint Director of Health Services, Salem and R. Athimoolam of National Rural Health Mission, on Friday inspected the Tiruchengode GH and inquired the doctors and hospital staff.

The members also inquired the parents and relatives of the babies.

The local people presented petitions seeking action against the hospital staff responsible for the incident.

J. Mohan, Joint Director of Health Services, Namakkal, and P. Prakash, Chief Medical Officer, Tiruchengode GH, were present on the occasion.

Dr. Ananthan later told presspersons that the inquiry report would be submitted to the Director of Medical Services within a few days and action would be initiated based on the findings of the report.
