The Madras High Court on Tuesday agreed to hear on Wednesday a public interest litigation petition filed by a Class XI student of a government higher secondary school in Arumbakkam against the ongoing strike by Jactto-Geo.
A Division Bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and P. Rajamanickam accepted a request made by the petitioner’s lawyer for an early hearing of the case since the employees had begun their indefinite strike on Tuesday, putting students to hardship ahead of public exams.
The petitioner, R. Gokul, had initially filed a writ petition against the strike. When it came up before Justice T. Raja for admission, the judge expressed reservations about entertaining the case, since a Division Bench at the Madurai Bench of the High Court was already seized of a related case.
Hence, the petitioner’s lawyer withdrew the writ petition before the single judge on Tuesday and made a mention before the Division Bench that the student had filed a PIL petition.
