A huge batch of beach sand mining related cases pending in the Madras High Court since 2015 may get disposed of soon as the Supreme Court on Thursday passed an order for early disposal of those cases after garnet export firm V.V. Minerals insisted on getting them decided within four weeks.

Disposing of a special leave petition, preferred by the garnet exporter challenging an interim order passed by the High Court on January 21, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta requested the High Court to dispose of the entire batch “as expeditiously as its business would permit.”

It also directed the court to permit the garnet export firm to plead for an interim relief for exporting all minerals that were legally mined before 2013.

The Chief Justice of the High Court Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani was further requested to make available the designated Division Bench for hearing the cases.

The order was passed after senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi, representing the garnet exporter, did not show interest in arguing the SLP.
