Govt. college soon at Veerapandi

Efforts are on to start a Government Arts and Science College at Veerapandi in Theni district from this academic year. To begin with, the district administration had identified a building in a private school to start the college, said Finance Minister O. Paneerselvam.

Inspecting the site and distributing welfare aid to beneficiaries at a function here, he said the college would be set up at a cost of Rs.8.48 crore. Identification of suitable site for construction of a new building was on. After finalising the rental building, admission for 2015-16 academic year would begin, he added. The Finance Minister inspected four sites near Veerapandi for construction of own building for the college.

With the establishment of 53 government colleges, including four engineering colleges in four and a half years in the State, admission to higher secondary classes rose to 42.8 per cent which was mere 18 per cent in 2011, he said.
