May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - SALEM:

The impressive performance displayed by the government higher secondary schools in the Plus Two public examinations has brought much delight to the education department officials, teachers and parents alike.

Ten government schools secured centum results, 42 schools secured 90 and above pass percentage, and 50 government schools registered more than 80 per cent result, competing effectively with the well-endowed private schools.

Given that most of the government schools have rural background with limited facilities, and prepare a large numbers of students for the examinations, registering such an impressive result was no small achievement. The striking show proves the grit of the students and the teachers to prove their mettle in a fitting manner.

Some of the government schools were unlucky to have missed the coveted 100 per cent achievement by a whisker.

The best example is the Government HSS, Keeripatti. Of the 127 students who appeared for the examinations, 126 emerged successful. With the failure of a single student, the school could manage only 99.21 per cent result. Similarly, two of the 166 students of Government Girls HSS, Sankagiri, failed to clear the exams, following which the school could register only 98.8 per cent.

The Government HSS, K. Morur - (98.68 per cent); PKM Government HSS, Madhanaickenpatti - (98.65 per cent), and Government HSS, M. Chettipatti - (98.39) are the other schools that registered more than 98 per cent results.

The government schools have been sending a large number of students for the public examinations. As many as 695 students of the Government Girls HSS, Salem city, appeared for the exams and 548 emerged successful to register 78.85 percent, followed by Government Girls HSS, Attur, which sent 551 students of which 472 came out successful to register 85.66 per cent.

Some of the other schools which sent a large number of students are: The Government Girls HSS, Edappadi - 389 students (86.9 per cent); Boys HSS, Edappadi - 382 students (84); Boys HSS, Mecheri 363 students (71.4); Pannapatti HSS - 356 students (89.9 per cent), Chinnappampatti HSS - 351 students (78.6 per cent); Girls HSS, Mecheri - 34 students (91.6 per cent); Girls HSS, Elampillai- 322 students (93.5 per cent); Girls HSS, Tharamangalam - 312 students (pass percentage 97.4); Ayodhiyapattinam HSS - 309 students (91.26).

A total of 21 schools had sent students between 200 and 300 for the Plus Two examinations.

A senior education official said that some of the schools have been maintaining the record of high pass percentage for years.

The government schools managed such remarkable results thanks to the special classes held both in the morning and evening hours.
