The 45-day government expo highlighting its achievements and people welfare schemes commenced at the Exhibition Ground near Corporation Office here on Saturday.

Secretary of Department of Tamil Development and Information M. Rajaram inaugurated the expo in the presence of Collector M. Karunakaran.

Besides the routine pleasure rides and eateries, the expo has 30 stalls in which the Tamil Nadu government’s achievements and schemes have been displayed. As good number of stalls are still under construction, the exhibition will be ready in every aspect only after a couple of days.

The exhibition attracts huge crowds during Aani car festival of Swamy Nellaiyapar Gandhimathi Ambal Temple and when tourists return home after visiting Courtallam.

Corporation Commissioner R. Lakshmi, District Revenue Officer M.G. Kulandaivel, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency H. Vijayakumar, and Revenue Divisional Officer P. Fermi Vidhya participated at the inaugural function.

Since people’s representatives in the district are canvassing votes for AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa in the by-poll for the R.K. Nagar Assembly segment in Chennai, none of them participated in the function.
