The police said the Class V girl along with her parents came to Seelanaickenpatti to visit her relatives.

Rag pickers

They were rag pickers and taking shelter along the roadsides.

On May 26, she was sleeping with her relatives on the pavements in Seelanaickenpatti.

Unidentified men kidnapped her and committed the crime. However, she informed her relatives on Thursday about the incident who rushed her to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital. Medical examination confirmed that she was assaulted.

Based on a complaint, the All Women Police Station in Salem Town registered a case under provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Inquiry is being held with rag pickers in Seelanaickenpatti areas.
