Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar on Friday said the reduction in fuel prices announced by the Centre came as a “huge relief” to consumers.

The Narendra Modi government must be complimented for the reduction of ₹ 2.50 on its part in fuel price, Mr. Javadekar told reporters at the Tiruchi international airport.

Thirteen Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled States reduced the price of petroleum products by another ₹ 2.50. “Those who consume petrol and diesel will get ₹ 5 as relief. This is a huge relief and this is where we have taken the lead now,” Mr. Javadekar said.

The Minister claimed that as per the findings of a survey, basic facilities, including availability of drinking water and LPG connections to poor households, had “doubled in the last four years” in comparison to 2011 to 2014 period.

The progress under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Modi was definitely a "hallmark", he said complimenting the ministries concerned in achieving the feat.
