Collector M. Karunakaran and Rajya Sabha MP S. Muthukaruppan distributed free textbooks, notebooks and uniforms to the students of Corporation Kallanai Higher Secondary School here on Monday.
Dr. Karunakaran said on the occasion that free textbooks would be distributed to 3.61 lakh students and free textbooks and notebooks to 2.87 lakh students during this academic year. Over 2.10 lakh students would get free textbooks, notebooks and uniforms.
“Distribution of free notebooks, textbooks and uniforms to the beneficiary students has commenced on the day of reopening of schools in the district. This exercise will be completed within the shortest possible time so that the freebies would of great help to the students,” Dr. Karunakaran said.
Mr. Muthukaruppan, while listing out the welfare schemes being implemented by the State government for students, appealed to the students to make use of these benefits and come up in life.
Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari, MP K.R.P. Prabhakaran, Sankarankovil MLA S. Muthuselvi and others participated.
