Free gold disbursed

Free gold for ‘thaali’, worth Rs. 7.57 crore, was handed over to 1,608 beneficiaries here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector M. Karunakaran said the State Government was giving 4 grams of free gold and Rs. 50,000 assistance to the poor graduate woman while the girls having the educational qualification of 10th or 12th standard would get the assistance of Rs. 25,000 besides the 4 gram gold for ‘thaali’.

“A total of 750 graduates and 858 other beneficiaries are getting their assistance and the gold today,” he said.

The Collector said that 2,100 beneficiaries had received Rs. 7.14 crore-worth free cows and Rs. 29.59 crore-worth sheep and goats had been given to 21,435 beneficiaries in the district.

Rajya Sabha MPs S. Muthukaruppan and Vijila Sathyananth, MPs K.R.P. Prabhakaran and Vasanthi Murugesan, Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari, and others participated.
