The Chief Judicial Magistrate, P. R. Ramakrishnan, on Monday, awarded and sentenced four youths to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for having impersonated as police personnel and robbing a couple of residents.
According to the prosecution, the youth — B. Tamilvanan (24), D. Suresh (21), D. Vairamuthu (23), and B. Yoganand (23) — posing as police personnel, had threatened a couple of residents of Velipalayam and robbed them of Rs. 5,900, four sovereigns of gold and a mobile phone. Based on a complaint by Ramadas, the police immediately arrested the four. The registration number of a jeep used by the youth formed the vital clue.
The Tirukuvalai police registered a case under Sec. 448 (Trespassing), Sec. 419 (Cheating by impersonation) and 392 (Robbery) of IPC and arrested them.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate who found them guilty, convicted, and sentenced them to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment. The Magistrate slapped a fine of Rs.3,000 on each of them.
