Four autorickshaws were seized in a crackdown launched by Regional Transport Office authorities here on Tuesday for not possessing necessary documents and overloading of . The auto-drivers were caught transporting eight to nine passengers in their vehicles in violation to the Motor vehicles Act. Normally, three adults were permitted to travel in an autorickshaw and five or six children could travel. Students were being transported in the seized autos, Regional Transport Officer K. Anand said. This would not only cause inconvenience to passengers but put the children's lives at risk. The drivers of the seized autos were neither in possession of permits, licence, fitness certificates, registration certificates, insurance policies, pollution certificates nor did they have digital meters. Besides, check reports were given to other six auto drivers on the charge of overloading passengers.

In a further drive, the authorities found operators of three mini buses collecting excess fare from passengers and check reports were issued to them. Two mini buses were found violating routes permitted to the operators, he said. The authorities in a team found that digital meters in most of the autos had not been calibrated and all such devices remained non functional. The drive would continue to check the erring drivers, the RTO said.
