Forum for Tamil Computing set up in Periyar University

The Tamil Virtual Academy of the State Government has set up a Forum for Tamil Computing in Periyar University.

C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the Forum at a function held on the university premises recently.

He unveiled the logo and promo video of the same.

On the occasion, Mr. Swaminathan spoke on the pressing need of taking Tamil language to travel in to the digital continent so that its richness in literature and cultural heritage could be upheld and divulged to the future generations.

T. Udhayachandran, director of Tamil Virtual Academy, who addressed the gathering through video conferencing, shared the objectives of starting the Forum and the various activities of the Tamil Virtual Academy to the participants.

Mr. Udhayachandran said that the government evinced keen interest in upholding the heritage of Tamil literature conserving the old Tamil manuscripts, arts, books and sculptures.

The Tamil Virtual Academy organised regular training programmes in Tamil computing, Mr. Udayachandran said.

He urged students to actively participate in it.

Articles

All the colleges should have the Forum for Tamil Computing for contributing to safeguard our language. The Tamil Virtual Academy had planned to upload one lakh articles on various topics in Tamil language in wikipedia in six months.

This would help people read more about various subjects in Tamil, Mr. Udayachandran added.

S. R. Selvakumar, Waterloo University, Canada, Chokalingam Karuppiah, system engineer, Vetrivel Private Limited, California, and Velmurugan Subramani, system engineer, Oracle Corporation, California, shared their views on the importance and usage of Tamil computing. V. P. Jayaseelan, Deputy Collector of Villupuram, Maa. Thamzhilpparithi, State Coordinator of the Forum for Tamil Computing, and M. Manivannan, Registrar of Periyar University, offered felicitations.
