Food Minister corners DMK

Questions why it had supported the Act in Parliament

Even as several DMK legislators rallied behind their MLA and former Food Minister E.V. Velu for raising certain points against the AIADMK government over the implementation of the Food Security Act in Tamil Nadu during a debate in the State Assembly on Friday, Food Minister R. Kamaraj managed to corner the principal Opposition party by questioning its decision to vote in favour of the Act in Parliament in 2013.

During a debate on the demand for grants for the Food department, Mr. Velu questioned as to why the ruling party had pressed ahead with the implementation of the Food Security Act despite the fact that it was strongly opposed by former chief minister Jayalalithaa.

“Just answer this. Didn’t the DMK vote in support of the Food Security Act in Parliament in August 2013?” Mr. Kamaraj asked in response, prompting the Opposition members to go silent.

Soon after, Mr. Velu moved on to the next topic.
