The Municipality has proposed to give a facelift to five parks in Hosur.

Plans are on to develop the parks at new ASTC Hudco, Matham Road, Lakshmi Narayana Nagar, TNHB Phase X, and Avalapalli Housing board.

Speaking to The Hindu , Hosur Municipal Commissioner M. Illango said that the proposal has been cleared by the council.

Currently, a detailed report is being prepared for the project, and will be sent to the Director of Town and Country Planning. The project will be funded by the DTPC and Hosur Municipality on a 90:10 ratio.

The parameters of development will be location specific and need based.

“There are some parks that require fencing of the perimeter, some require greenery development, and play areas,” Mr.Illango said.

A few of these parks have practically been turned into dump yards owing to neglect. The town development of Hosur has been intrinsically linked to plots reserved for greenery in the form of parks. However, the housing development project here has not been accompanied by any tangible development of these micro parks.

Most of the plots earmarked as mandatory green enclaves in housing areas have turned havens for anti-social activities. “Often a 10 to 15 per cent of open area is slotted as reserved land for park development”, sources said.

This park development project is likely to give a new lease of life to abandoned parks.
