M. Anthony Mohandoss (21), fisherman of Soosai Maria Nagar, Tharuvaikulam, has gone missing since Monday evening. He suddenly fell into sea while casting net, P. Antony Churchill, president, Tharuvaikulam Mechanized Boat Owners’ Association, said on Tuesday.

Mohandoss was among a crew of six fishermen, who ventured into sea by a mechanized boat at noon on Monday. Search operations are under way to rescue him.

The entire fishing fleet had been involved in searching for him, he said. Tharuvaikulam Inspector of Marine Police C. Muhesh Jeyakumar said the incident occurred at 27 nautical miles off Tharuvaikulam coast.

The network signal strength was off at deep sea, the fishermen informed the boat owner only after reaching the shore. Mr. Jeyakumar said the marine police had sought help of Indian Coast Guard here for searching him. Tharuvaikulam marine police have filed a man-missing case based on a complaint lodged by S. Mariadoss (55), father of the missing fisherman.
