Gangaikondan Industrial Estate-based Alliance Tyre Company has sponsored four steel plates to ensure hassle-free run of Swamy Nellaiyappar Temple’s car during the Aani festival.
As the temple car that would be drawn during Aani car festival every year weighs about 450 tonnes, four 7-foot-long and 3-foot-wide steel plates of 30 mm thickness would be used to ensure its free movement and to turn the towering car.
The plates would be usually brought to Tirunelveli every year exclusively for the car festival from Sri Andal Temple in Srivilliputhur and sent back after the end of the event.
Costly exercise
Since this exercise costs Rs. 10,000 every year, the temple administration approached Alliance Tyre Company, having its manufacturing unit at Gangaikondan Industrial Estate, to sponsor the steel plates.
Accepting the plea, the firm released Rs. 1.50 lakh with which the steel plates were purchased.
In a simple function held near Swamy Nellaiyappar Temple on Tuesday, the temple authorities received the steel plates from the company representatives.
