Fast against power plant continues

September 18, 2011 09:23 am | Updated August 04, 2016 12:02 am IST - Tirunelveli:

The dissidents of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project continued the hunger strike at Idinthakarai on Saturday demanding the immediate closure of the plant.

The indefinite hunger strike has entered into the seventh consecutive day. Not only the fisherfolk but the common people also stood firm in their stand against the project.

The nuclear plant project had raised fear of being hazardous among the people. Since it was located at a coastal hamlet, fisherfolk were also protesting against the plant.

They alleged that livelihoods of fishermen would be adversely affected once the nuclear power plant became operational. Condemning the nuclear power project, the fishing activities came to a halt along the neighbouring coastal villages.
