Faculty development programme

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Francis Xavier Engineering College, inaugurated an AICTE sponsored 14-day ‘Faculty Development Programme’ on ‘Identification of cyber criminals using cyber forensics and its tools’ recently. About 60 faculties from Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu participated in this programme. Inaugurating the FDP, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range and Commisioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, S. Murugan, created awareness of the cybercrime issues and the misuse of online and social networks these days.

Dr. Shalini Punithavathani, Principal, Government College of Engineering, and Dr. Deejay, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Anna University – Tirunelveli, also participated.

R. Thambithurai, General Manager, SCAD Group of Institutions, delivered the introductory remarks and V. Ilangovan, Principal, Francis Xavier Engineering College, presided over the function.

Conference

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, V.V. College of Engineering, Thisaiyanvilai, organised a conference on ‘Recent advancements in mechanical engineering’ recently.

T.P.D. Rajan, senior scientist, CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram, who was the chief guest, motivated the students by quoting the life history of great scientists like Michael Faraday and Thomas Alva Edison and narrated how an ordinary man could become great scientists by their interest and sheer hard work.

About 50 research scholars and students from various colleges participated and presented their research papers.

P. Melba Mary, Principal, presided over the conference and spoke on the contribution of mechanical engineering to various fields.

Graduation Day

The Einstein College of Engineering conducted its 7th graduation day recently. The chief guest V. Veerappan, co-founder of Tessolve Semiconductor Private Limited, Bangalore, motivated the students, especially the rural youths to excel in their career through hard work.

He recalled the achievements and the vision of Aladi Aruna, founder of the college.

He handed over degrees to 455 students from various disciplines. He also honoured 23 students who got Anna University ranks.

Career guidance programme

A career guidance programme for students from coastal villages of Gulf of Mannar region was held at Thevanesam Erudhaya Ammal Polytechnic College, Vembar, on Sunday. During the programme organised by People’s Action for Development (PAD), a voluntary organisation, faculty members and resource persons from different colleges and institutes counselled the 150 students who had taken SSLC and Plus Two exams. While explaining various courses offered by higher educational institutions, they enlightened the students on admission procedures and eligibility criteria.

They also spoke about the scope of courses and highlighted the career prospects.

College Day celebrated

The Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam, celebrated its 30th College Day and Hostel Day on its premises on Thursday evening. S. Sasinath, students’ club secretary, welcomed the gathering. J. Sadakkadulla, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, in his special address, advised the students to do their work sincerely to get rewarded.

He also said that education would provide the students required opportunities to develop soft skills.

He explained the opportunities available in the banking sector for agriculture graduates. V. Subramanian, Dean, ACRI, presided. Earlier, K. Angappan, Academic Coordinator, presented the annual college report and students’ club report was presented by D.S. Rajavel, Staff Advisor.

E.G.Ebenezer, warden, presented the hostel report. Students performed cultural programmes. Prizes were distributed to winners of various events. M. Mayilsamy, mess representative, proposed a vote of thanks.
