Illegal firecrackers recovered at Manojipatti in Thanjavur on Tuesday.

The police seized 54 kg of explosive materials stored in a godown near here on Tuesday.

Following a tip-off that Ganapathy (34) of LIC Colony here who was having a licensed explosive vending unit at Ammapettai was having an unlicensed explosive godown at Thiruvalluvar Nagar near Manojipatti here.

Based on the information, the Thanjavur Medical College police raided the godown and recovered 54 kg of explosive materials and three and a half kg of accessories for making explosives used during festivals and special occasions. Further inquiry was under way.
