One of the air-conditioners in the Palani Andavar meeting hall of the municipal building exploded here on Thursday. False roof and electrical wires were totally destroyed in a fire triggered by the explosion. Thick smoke billowed from the first floor of the municipality.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel extinguished the fire and saved valuable documents and office files stocked in the ground floor of the building. As news spread, people gathered in front of the office.
Municipal Chairman T. Rajamanickam, said that an official inquiry was under way to determine the cause of the explosion. Ten split air-conditioners have been installed in the conference hall.
