January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - TUTICORIN:

The Corporation Council meeting held here on Friday evening commenced with thanking the State government for the launch of Amma cement for the benefit people.

Presiding over the meeting, A.P.R. Anthony Grace, Mayor, thanked AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa for the measure. A. Kottur Raja, DMK councillor of ward 30, said underground drainage works were progressing slowly and sought the intervention of the Mayor to expedite the works. He said people had been finding it hard to access George Road since the road had been damaged by digging for the drainage works.

The Mayor replied that consistent rainfall caused delay in the drainage works and the problem would be solved soon.

Meanwhile, Gokila, AIADMK councillor of ward 3, said roads in most parts of her ward had been badly damaged and left with potholes, causing hardships to road users. She sought better road infrastructure.

The Mayor said such works would be taken up on a priority basis.

M. Balasubramanian, DMK councillor of ward 46, demanded action to control mosquito breeding, especially at Bucklepuram. The 33-subject agenda meeting concluded smoothly.

P. Xavier, Deputy Mayor, S. Madhumathi, Commissioner, S.A. Rajagopalan and M. Rakappan, both Executive Engineers, and other officials attended.
