The Elections Department on Thursday moved the EVMs and VVPAT machines from the respective polling booths to the strong rooms in Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology, Bagayam in Vellore and Ranipet Engineering College. Counting of votes for Ambur and Gudiyatham assembly constituencies will be taken up at Bagayam.
For Arakkonam Lok Sabha seat and Sholingur assembly seat, counting of votes would begin at Ranipet.
The final tally of votes polled at Arakkonam PC was released on Friday, stood at 78.17%, whereas the Ambur constituency recorded 76.67%.
The other two constituencies Gudiyatham and Sholingur recorded 74.83% and 82.26%, according to the District Election Officer.
Tight security arrangements have been made at the strong room and the counting centre with the deployment of Central Armed Police Force in addition to the Tamil Nadu Special Police.
Security has been strengthened at the centre. The building and the strong rooms will be under 24X7 surveillance by the district police as well as paramilitary forces. Election observers and District Collector K.S. Kandasamy reviewed the security arrangements in the counting centres at the Tiruvannamalai Regulated Market premises on Tindivanam road where votes of Tiruvannamalai constituency EVMs and VVPAT machines were stored.
For Arni constituency, the machines were stored in strong rooms set up at Shanmuga Industries HSS, Tiruvannamalai.
