Enumeration of wells

The district administration has taken up an enumeration of all open and borewells which are in disuse in the district.

The two-day exercise began here on Tuesday with District Collector S.Palanisamy inspecting some of the wells in disuse. Inspecting one such open well at Thuravankollai, he instructed the officials to take steps to close it. In a press release issued later, Mr.Palanisamy said all wells in disuse in the district would be closed through the land owners concerned or the respective panchayats within the next 15 days.

Grievances meet

The monthly farmers grievances redress meeting would be held at the Collector’s Office here at 10 a.m. on May 29, Collector S.Ganesh said in a press release.

Surprise checks

at fruits stalls

Food safety officials conducted surprise checks at fruits stalls at Matha Kovil Street and New Market areas to check the sale of mangoes ripened using calcium carbide stones. Such mangoes sold at a few shops in the area were seized by the officials, according to an official press release.
