DMK legislator Palanivel Thiagarajan said in the Assembly on Monday that the AIADMK government must ensure economic justice for all in the State.
Speaking on the Budget presented by Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Mr. Thiagarajan said that though social justice was a means of ensuring economic justice, social justice alone was not sufficient.
The Madurai Central MLA pointed out that the revenue receipt of the State government fell by 10% in two years and claimed that the government failed in its duty to ensure receipt of funds to the tune of about ₹80,000 crore from the manufacturing sector.
The government should not only concentrate on collecting revenue but also be reasonable in distributing funds for various schemes, he said, adding that the State government should also plug the loopholes in the taxation system.
Indirect taxes were affecting the people, Mr. Thiagarajan said, and urged the State government not to use biometric data for ensuring supplies to beneficiaries of the public distribution system alone. Food Minister R. Kamaraj intervened to say that the Tamil Nadu government did not use biometric data for providing supplies to beneficiaries.
