A student of a private engineering institution reportedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Tuesday.

According to the police attached to the Katpadi station, Paval Om Prakash, 23, of Mumbai, was studying Computer Science Engineering. He had completed the four-year course but was left with a few arrears.

The three students he shared the room with had completed the course and vacated the hostel on April 25.

Paval Om Prakash, who was also supposed to vacate the hostel room, was depressed over having arrears, the police said.

His friend saw him at 7 p.m. on Monday and went to his room on Tuesday after finding the room closed for a long time. He found Prakash hanging in the room. The Katpadi police have registered a case and are investigating.
