The police are examining the call details of an engineer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering who committed suicide on Friday by falling in front of a speeding train.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the official took the step under pressure, police sources said.
Department sources said S. Muthukumarasamy, an Executive Engineer, was an honest officer and had recently finalised the list of four persons to be appointed as drivers in his department. He had obtained the seniority list from the District Employment Office.
However, he had been receiving calls from a “highly influential person” who wanted him to consider another “list of selected candidates”. Muthukumarasamy, who had about six months to retire from service, was warned that he would be placed under suspension if he ignored the instruction.
Sources in Government Railway Police, quoting the loco pilot, said the victim, who was speaking over his mobile phone, suddenly threw the cell phone before lying across the railway track., and killing himself.
