Education Dept. gears for board exams

January 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - VELLORE:

With less than two months left for the board exams, the Education Department, Vellore is concentrating on micro-level efforts to make each day useful for the students.

V. Kumar, Chief Education Officer, Vellore said 42 days were left for the Class XII board examinations and 56 days for SSLC examinations. Revision and unit tests were being conducted for classes X and XII.

While special classes are being held during morning and evening hours for students, the department has embarked on another strategy too. “We are directly meeting students of the two classes to motivate them, provide guidance on how to face the public examinations and see their preparations as per the blueprint,” he said.

With the practical exams scheduled for February, preparatory measures by means of model practical tests are being taken, he added.

“We have taken in account the man hours and days available. We are doing micro-level planning to see how each day can be turned useful for the students. We have told teachers to focus in such a way to guide students on securing one mark more in one subject every day,” he explained.

Subjects analysed

The department is also analysing subjects that saw higher failure rates during the half-yearly examinations. “We will be conducting a training session for teachers of such subjects on January 27 and 28 to provide them with tips to help students improve in these subjects,” Mr. Kumar added.

The official said they were organising sessions to motivate students to study well and secure good marks.

Students have been segregated according to their learning capabilities, with “below average” students receiving intensive coaching, he added.

R. Neelakandan, headmaster of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Pudupettai said the CEO had instructed that special attention be provided slow learners.

“We are also providing counseling for students. We have also conducted meetings for parents and given tips on proper diet for students and safe drinking water,” he added.
