The mobile phone of Kilakarai DSP K Maheswari, who triggered a controversy alleging that her batch mate and Tiruchengode DSP R Vishnupriya was forced to commit suicide because of the harassment of her superior officers, still remains untraced.
Ms. Maheswari had lodged a complaint with the Kilakarai police on September 27 that she missed her mobile phone while on the night rounds.
After registering the complaint, the police had issued a Community Service Register (CSR) receipt but the phone could not be traced even after six days. “We are following it up,” Superintendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan said when asked about the DSP’s complaint. Meanwhile, sources said the police doubted the veracity of the complaint. The phone could be traced only if it was missed, a source said. If the DSP had missed the phone during the night rounds, she would have enquired with her driver and searched at places where she had visited but she had straight away lodged a complaint and insisted on a CSR mentioning the date and time of her complaint.
The phone ‘went missing’ because the DSP apprehended that her mobile phone would be subjected for scrutiny by the Crime Branch CID police, investigating into the suicide of Vishnupriya as she was in close touch with Ms. Maheswari and called her “Akka’ (elder sister). It was, however, not known whether the ‘missing phone’ had any vital evidence to prove her charge. Ms. Maheswari could not be contacted for her comments.
