As many as 150 drivers, most of them employed by private schools and colleges, benefitted from the special eye and general medical check-up arranged by the Transport Department on Tuesday, as part of the Safety Week observance.

A team led by Chief Eye Surgeon of Government Headquarters Hospital M. Ravikumar examined the vision of the drivers, and recommended surgery for two among them. The general check-up involving determination of blood sugar levels, hypertension, and cardiac complications was carried out by doctors from IRT Perundurai Medical College. M. Ramalingam, Regional Transport Officer, advised the drivers, particularly those who are over 40 years old, to undergo medical tests every year.
