‘Dr. Alagappa Museum’ set up at university

The Alagappa University has established “Dr. Alagapa Museum” on the university campus, commemorating the educational services of its founder RM Alagappa Chettiar, Vice-Chancellor S. Subbiah has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said the belongings/materials/things used by Dr Chettiar, his photos taken together with high dignitaries, his speeches, handwritten letters and greetings had been displayed in the museum.

“A mini air-conditioned theatre with the latest technology has been created to depict the life history of our great vallal in a 30-minute audio visual,” he said adding this was the significant feature of the museum.

Detailing the recent achievements of the university, Mr. Subbia said an application has been filed on March 22 for grant of New Indian Patent entitled “An anti-acne synergistic composition and process thereof”.

The Department of Physics has also filed an application for grant of new Indian Patent titled “A system for growing a unidirectional organic single crystal compound and method thereof”, he said.

The Department of Bioelectronics and Biosensors was developing sensor chips based of nanomaterials to reduce the cost of the sensor chip down to help diabetic patients, he said.

This project was supported by Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, with financial assistance of Rs.32.7 lakh, he said.

“The sensor is under investigation in laboratory conditions and the technology will be transferred to ICMR soon for further technology development,” he said.

The university has also been carrying out high ended research in the areas of Science and Technology which resulted in the good quality publications in reputed international journals with high impact factors, he said.

In order to further promote the research and development activities and to inculcate the research culture of international standard, Alagappa University was planning to introduce the post-doctoral fellowship program with the aim of attracting foreign nationals, non-resident Indians and people of Indian origin to carry out significant research and development activities on our campus, Mr. Subbiah said.
