The DMK has constituted a committee to study and prepare a report on the draft National Education Policy (NEP) of the BJP-led Central government.
In a statement issued on Sunday, party president M.K. Stalin said the committee would comprise former Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi, former School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu, former Vice-Chancellor M. Rajendran, former chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education A. Ramasami, Professor Krishnasami, State Platform for Common School System convenor Prince Gajendra Babu, DMK student wing secretary C.V.M.P. Ezhilarasan, Doctors’ Association for Social Equity office-bearer Dr. Ravindranath and DMK Dharmapuri MP S. Senthilkumar.
The committee has been asked to submit its report in 10 days.
Mr. Stalin said the Centre gave up the imposition of Hindi after the DMK opposed the proposal.
“But the BJP government is always finding avenues to impose Hindi, and the allocation in the Budget for the appointment of Hindi teachers in non-Hindi-speaking States runs contrary to what it had promised,” the DMK leader said.
