DMK meet an assembly of sidelined leaders: Minister

The meeting organised by the DMK on Saturday to celebrate the 94th birthday of its leader M. Karunanidhi and his completion of 60 years as legislator was a mere congregation of those sidelined in politics, claimed Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan here on Sunday.

Addressing reporters at Kaliyal town, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that those who had participated in the function in Chennai had lost the confidence of the people.

“All of them are senior citizens,” he claimed.

The celebration was not organised with the true purpose of honouring the leader who had more than 70 years of public service behind him.

“If the DMK President Karunanidhi was in active politics, the very function would have taken a different shape. The function was held in the presence of those whom Mr. Karunanidhi had referred to as bad company,” Mr. Radhakrishnan charged.

The Minister also ridiculed the call for another war of independence by DMK working president M.K. Stalin.
