The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner seeking criminal action against a person who had created a fake Twitter account in the name of Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi and had indulged in a misformation campaign.

R.J. Selvanayagam, an advocate and party functionary, lodged the complaint on Ms. Kanimozhi’s behalf. He said Ms. Kanimozhi was busy attending to her father and party president M. Karunanidhi who had been admitted in a private hospital due to ill health.

Under such circumstances, a fake Twitter account had been created in her name and comments critical of certain religious practices and beliefs were being posted using the handle.

Alleging that such messages were being circulated with the ulterior motive of damaging her reputation, Mr. Selvanayagam wanted the police to bring the culprits to book.
