DMK delegation to meet Governor

A DMK delegation, led by working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin, will on Monday meet Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan and submit a memorandum detailing corruption charges against the ruling AIADMK.

The party will also highlight the recent searches conducted by the Income Tax Department against certain persons linked to the Chief Minister. “We will submit a memorandum in connection with the I-T Department’s searches in the houses and offices of the Chief Minister’s relatives and friends,” Mr. Stalin told journalists on Thursday, adding “We also have plans to approach the court (seeking a probe).”

Mr. Stalin said the deterioration of law and order in the State was exemplified by the sexual assault of a minor girl by 17 persons in an apartment complex in Chennai. “I raised the issue of [increasing] incidents of murder for gain and sexual assault on women in the Assembly. But the government turned a blind eye to my allegations,” he said.

Asked about the alleged threats received by those who were appearing before the Justice Arumughasamy Commission probing the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, he said he was not surprised since even Justice Sundar, the sitting judge of the Madras High Court, was not spared.

Asked about actor Rajinikanth’s support to the Salem-Chennai corridor, he said the actor’s position was not surprising. “He has been offering support to all the schemes of the Centre and we are not bothered about his stand,” he said.
