Members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a black flag protest during Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s visit to the Fort City.

The cadre, led by Members of Legislative Assembly, gathered near Viruthampet and staged the protest when the Governor’s convoy was proceeding to Katpadi.

A.P. Nandhakumar, MLA of Anaicut and secretary of DMK Central district, led the protest along with Vellore MLA P. Karthikeyan and Mohammed Saqhy, the party’s district presidium chairman.

Mr. Nandhakumar said it was unconstitutional on the part of the Governor to hold review meetings and inspect schemes. The party members raised slogans against his visit. The Governor was on his way to a micro compost centre of Vellore Corporation at Gandhi Nagar.

Several policemen were deployed at the protest venue to keep the situation under control.
