Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) candidate for Namakkal Lok Sabha Constituency N. Maheswaran is to be replaced as he has been admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore with an infection in spine and brain. And, party leader Vijayakant has left the task of announcing the name of the new candidate to the Bharatiya Janata Party that leads the alliance in the State.

In his campaign speech, Mr. Vijayakant said: “We are in alliance with a national party. We respect the national party. So, they will announce the name of the candidate for Namakkal in a day or two.”

The party covered the photo and name of Mr. Maheswaran on the banners at Mr. Vijayakant’s campaign venue here on Monday evening.

DMDK’s Namakkal district secretary and Tiruchengode MLA P. Sampath Kumar told The Hindu that Mr. Maheswaran was among the first five candidates for the Lok Sabha elections announced by party leader Vijayakant on March 14. Mr. Maheswaran contested from the Namakkal seat in the 2009 elections.
