March 10, 2012 01:23 am | Updated 01:23 am IST - TIRUCHI:

As directed by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, V. Divaharan, brother of V.K. Sasikala, was subjected to a medical examination at Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Headquarters Hospital here on Friday.

Mr. Divaharan, who was arrested in a house demolition case in Tiruvarur district and is lodged at Tiruchi Central Prison, was brought to the hospital with police escort.

He was taken back to the prison in the afternoon.

Sources said the medical report would be submitted to the High Court through the hospital dean.

The court had directed the Superintendent of the prison to subject Divaharan to medical examination at a government hospital to assess whether it was necessary to admit him as an inpatient for undergoing continuous treatment for diabetes and heart disease.

The order was passed on a writ petition filed by Divaharan's wife Hemalatha seeking a direction to the prison authorities and the police to shift him to a private hospital.
