The students of the Little Flower Convent Higher Secondary School For The Deaf were a proud bunch, as they had all fared well in the Class X examination.
“This year too we had 100% results,” said J.E. Usha, a teacher at the school. Taseen scored the highest marks with 332 out of 400, as they are exempted from learning another language, and topped in maths.
“I am so proud of her,” said Tabassum, Ms. Taseen’s mother, who has been raising her single-handedly after her husband left them a few years ago. “She is a determined girl and watching her work hard to achieve her goals gives me hope for a better life,” she said.
Ms. Taseen’s close friend is Arshanaaz, who scored the third highest marks, 309, after K. Muthulakshmi, who scored a 320. Her father, Mutheeb Ahmed, couldn’t stop gushing about her achievement. “My wife has hearing impaired and so is my daughter and son. But time and again, they have proved naysayers wrong. I have big dreams for her,” he said.
Apart from studying, all the three girls spend their time in extracurricular activities. Muthulakshmi, for instance, loves acting. “But my aim is to become a banker,” she quipped.
Those studying at the Little Flower Convent Hr. Sec. School for the Blind too were rejoicing on the result day. “This year, only maths was tough, the rest were easy. I’ll make it up next year,” said Vinitha. M, who scored the highest with 456 out of 500 marks.
D. Salomi, who lived on the pavement with her father, scored 77% and wants to become a farmer.
