The Paris terror strikes have marred the diamond jubilee celebrations of the IFP, which enjoys a unique status among the overseas network of French research institutes in that its inception in 1955 was written into the historic Treaty of Cession of French Territories in India.

The two-day celebrations scheduled to begin on November 18 have been scaled down. The event will now be a one-day affair as the Open Day on November 19 stands cancelled.

The French Ambassador to India, Francois Richier, who was due to inaugurate the celebrations on Wednesday, has suspended his visit.

“However, all the 150 delegates, including scholars from France and the rest of Europe, have confirmed their arrival,” Mr. Grard said.
