Dhinakaran predicts simultaneous polls

Says Budget aimed at Parliament elections

There is a strong possibility of the State Assembly elections being held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, dissident AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran said here on Saturday.

Speaking to the media after garlanding the statue of late Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on his death anniversary, Mr. Dhinakaran said: “The Union Budget has been prepared solely keeping in mind the coming Lok Sabha elections.’’

The State government, which claimed legitimacy using late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s name, was not following her ideals. “We have launched the ‘Meet-the-People’ programme from Cholamandalam. Wherever I go, people have been complaining about the exorbitant bus fare hike. We will succeed in removing this regime,” he said.

Alleging that Tamil Nadu has been bypassed in the Union Budget, the R.K. Nagar MLA said that no political leader in the State had welcomed it. “Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and some senior Ministers kowtow the Central government for their own survival. They fear that if they oppose the Centre, their jobs would be lost,” he said.

“Riding on luck, the Chief Minister wants to only prolong his tenure and is not thinking of doing service to the people. Everything will come to an end soon,” Mr. Dhinakaran remarked.
