Leaders across the political spectrum in Tamil Nadu have hailed the resignation of the BJP’s B.S. Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
DMK Working President M.K. Stalin described Mr. Yeddyurappa’s resignation as a victory for democracy, a view echoed by CPI State Secretary R. Mutharasan and VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan. “I appreciate this development, which would herald the coordination of secular forces in the country,” Mr. Stalin said.
Mr. Mutharasan pointed out that Mr. Yeddyurappa tendered his resignation only after realising that he could not prove his majority in the House. “The Governor made a blunder by inviting Mr. Yeddyurappa to form the government even though he did not enjoy a majority in the House. Either the Governor should resign or the President should recall him,” he demanded.
Mr. Thirumavalavan blamed the PM and BJP President Amit Shah for the “confusion” in Karnataka, adding that the entire episode was a lesson for the BJP.
TNCC president Su. Thirunavukkarasar commended the Supreme Court for its intervention in the matter. The court and the AICC president [Rahul Gandhi] had “prevented the massacre of democracy,” he said.
