With DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s condition having stabilised after a ‘transient setback,’ traffic movement returned to normality on the Luz Church Road - T.T.K. Road junction on Wednesday morning, as the police demarcated space for party cadre and mediapersons waiting outside Kauvery Hospital.

Though MTC buses were seen plying on the stretch, commuters said parking remained an issue.

The burgeoning crowd at the Alwarpet junction over the weekend had stopped the movement of vehicles proceeding from Luz Church Road towards T.T.K. Road. “The party workers suddenly came and blocked the road. To avoid inconveniencing the public, we cut off the traffic towards T.T.K. Road. However, cars and two-wheelers used Luz Avenue, Desika Road and D Silva Road to reach their destinations,” said an official of the traffic enforcement wing.

After the announcement that the DMK leader’s health condition had improved, the number of party workers camping outside the premises reduced. On Wednesday, the police asked mediapersons to park their OB vans in a single line.

“We placed barricades and ensured that the people waiting outside were restricted to the side of the road. By doing so, we were able to allow vehicles, including MTC buses, to ply on the stretch,” said a traffic police officer.

Parking issues

Meanwhile, G. Aravind, whose relative had been admitted to a hospital near Desika Road, said that for the past two days, he had to take smaller lanes off Luz Church Road to reach the hospital. “On Wednesday, the traffic was cleared, but I could not find space to park my vehicle,” he said.

Shops near Kauvery Hospital resumed operations on Wednesday. “But customers are having difficulty finding space to park their vehicles,” said a shop employee.
