CPI(M) to hold State-wide picketing on March 27

March 05, 2012 02:01 am | Updated 02:01 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise a State-wide picketing on March 27 to condemn price rise, power cuts across the State and privatisation of education.

The CPI(M) central committee member and party's Rajya Sabha MP, T.K. Rengarajan, told reporters that the agitation was also in protest against the neo-liberal economic policies pursued by the Centre and the State government which had affected the people. The economic policies had resulted in unprecedented hike in prices, and poor planning had ended up in serious power crisis in Tamil Nadu.

Agriculture sector was fast turning into a loss-making activity, he said and added that the government was encouraging privatisation in health sector.

Mr. Rengarajan said the CPI(M) had decided to support the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) in the Sankarankoil by- election to prevent further split in the vote. The DMDK was also fighting against the government on various issues including price rise. Barring the CPI(M) and the other Left parties, all other parties in the country were pursuing neo-liberal economic policies. The all-India conference of the party would be held at Kozhikode in April first week, Mr. Rengarajan said.
