The CPI(M) on Saturday called for the arrest of all those involved in the noon meal scam, where an alleged ₹2,400 crore was paid to politicians, bureaucrats and their family members in kickbacks.
The Hindu had published a report on the scam on Saturday highlighting the Income Tax Department’s findings that bribes were paid based on documents seized from the offices of the Tiruchengode-based Christy Fried gram Industry, supplier of items like weaning food, pulses and palm oil for the noon meal programme and other welfare schemes of the Social Welfare Department.
‘Corruption everywhere’
In a statement, CPI(M) State secretary K. Balakrishnan said the fact that politicians and bureaucrats had sought to profit themselves from a scheme intended to end hunger among poor children proved that corruption had come to take over all aspects of the State government.
He said that Christy Friedgram Industry has already been blacklisted by the State government.
The State government, which had been hit by the gutkha scam, should take action to dismiss all those involved in the scam, Mr. Balakrishnan added.
