April 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - SALEM:

A newly-married couple came to the Collectorate on Saturday seeking protection. S. Kumaresan (26) of Mecheri was serving in the battalion in Manimutharu in Tirunelveli district. Earlier, when he served as driver for Ravichandran, Commander in Avadi battalion, Kumaresan fell in love with Ravichandran’s daughter Priyadarshini (20). Ravichandran opposed it and transferred Kumaresan to Manimutharu. Priyadarshini left home on Friday and Ravichandran lodged a complaint with the Ambattur police in Chennai.

On Saturday, Kumaresan and Priyadarshini got married at a temple in Salem and came to the Collectorate seeking protection. They submitted a petition to P.A. to Collector (General) who directed them to meet Superintendent of Police G. Subbulakshmi.

The SP held talks and Priyadarshini expressed her willingness to go with Kumaresan. Later, they left.
