Couple killed in accident, toddler injured

A couple were killed and their two-year-old son was injured when the two-wheeler in which they were travelling was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to Vellore Taluk police, Prabhu (34) of Servai Munusamy Nagar, Velapadi was riding the two-wheeler with his wife Kadambari (30) and son Pranav in the pillion. They were travelling to the Katpadi Railway Station at about 5 a.m. to take a train to Tirupati.

Prabhu took the old Palar bridge from Vellore to reach Katpadi when an unidentified vehicle hit the two-wheeler. Prabhu and Kadambari were severely hurt and died on the spot, while Pranav was rushed to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai with injuries.

Police said Pranav had sustained minor injuries on his head and leg and is undergoing treatment at the GH.Planned visit

The family had planned to visit Tirupati and wanted to park the bike at the Katpadi Railway station to take a train to Tirupati. The couple were pharmacists, police said. Earlier, Prabhu was working abroad and was looking for a job abroad again, police said.

Based on a complaint from Prabhu’s brother Babu (36), Vellore Taluk police have registered a case.
