A couple working as Home Guards in Kanyakumari district were arrested by the District Crime Branch police on Sunday night on a charge of cheating many people on the promise of getting them jobs in various departments.
According to the police, Shibu (28) and his wife Shini (26) allegedly received Rs. 50,000 from R. Vinisha (23) of Tholavaivattam promising to get her a job in railways.
When the couple failed to get her a job as promised, Ms. Vinisha lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan.
On his instructions, the District Crime Branch police investigated the case and found that the couple had also cheated many others and collected lakhs of rupees from them. It was also found that the couple had used fake documents with forged signatures and rubber stamps.
Plea to arrest two
Residents of Tirupathisagaram near here, led by panchayat president Bagavathiammal, Bharatiya Janata Party State executive committee member M.R. Gandhi and office-bearers of Vishva Hindu Parishad, demanded arrest of two persons in connection with the murder of college student Lakshmanakumar alias Jegan on May 2.
They submitted a petition to this effect to Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan during the grievances day meeting here on Monday.
